Meet Randolph A. Holly, DDS

Dr. Randolph A. Holly  graduated from Queens College/City University of New York in 1978 and New York University College of Dentistry in 1982. After earning his D.D.S. from NYU, Dr. Holly directly entered his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Metropolitan Hospital Center – New York Medical College.  In 1985, Dr. Holly earned his certification in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Upon completing his residency in 1985, he joined Stephen S. Schneider, DDS P.C. in practice. Dr.  Schneider, an accomplished oral surgeon of his era, mentored Dr Holly giving him insights and informal training, facilitating his transition into private practice. In 1987,  Dr. Schneider and Dr. Holly became partners forming Associates in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, PC.  Together, they practiced the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with significant emphasis on orthognathic surgery, facial trauma surgery and dentoalveolar surgery.  In 1988, Dr Holly completed his formal education by passing his boards and becoming Board  Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Finishing his formal education  did not mean that the time for education was over. Since completion of his Boards, doctor has received formal advanced training in the use of multiple wavelength lasers in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and TMJ Arthroscopy. He has also received advanced training in dental implant and various bone grafting procedures. Dr. Holly also alternates his re-certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support every year. .   In 1996 Dr. S. Schneider retired from active practice for health reasons and Dr. Holly continued in solo practice.  In addition to his office practice, Dr. Holly spent a large amount of time on staff at the local hospitals. Over the years, he managed many minor oral surgery emergencies as well as extremely challenging maxillofacial injuries such as gun shot wounds, blunt force injuries and high speed motor vehicle injuries. His time managing these complex injuries has provided the foundation for a long and successful career in the day to day practice of office based Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, doctor spent a significant amount of his free time serving on various hospital committees. In his tenure on the medical staff,  he has served as the Director of the Department of Dentistry from 1992 thru 2008 as well as multiple terms as Department Chairman.  He was also member of the United Health Services Quality Improvement Committee, Medical Executive Committee, Credentials Committee as well as other committees both formal and ad hoc within the medical staff. Dr. Holly was also proud to have served as chairman of the hospitals Quality Assurance and Credentials Committee  during his years on staff.

In 2007 Dr. Holly decided to change the path of his practice. After 25 years of practicing the full scope of the specialty, Dr. Holly decided to leave the hospital setting  and practice his specialty limited to the office setting.  He had realized,  at this point of his career, that a change was warranted.  Since then, Dr. Holly has recreated his practice limiting it to office based oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures with emphasis on dental implants, dentoalveolar surgery, pathology, surgical removal of teeth/impacted teeth and ambulatory anesthesia technique. Dr. Holly offers general anesthesia and sedation services. Office IV anesthesia is performed safely and efficiently in our state of the art facility where thousands of anesthetics have been administered. Over the years, Dr Holly has put a lot of time and resources to improve his implant practice.  While a surgical resident in the early 80’s, he was exposed to various  brand new implant techniques and materials. Although in their early stages, implants were here to stay and Dr Holly was uniquely positioned to observe the evolution  and develop his practice of implantology. His many years of implant experience and his extensive surgical background in bone grafting and other complex maxillofacial procedures make him the most experienced  Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon in our area, performing many of these procedures for over 25 years.  Dr. Holly was the first  to bring to our area computer guided implant surgery and 3D imaging into the oral surgical suite. His office continues to evolve and utilize various surgical techniques and implant software to improve on results and make the procedures as efficient and comfortable as possible.

Teaching has been an intricate part of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training. Since coming to the area,  Dr Holly has been involved with teaching medical residents and had long held the appointment of Associate Professor of Surgery at Upstate Medical – Binghamton Campus. Currently,  he assists with the undergraduate education of Dental Hygienists at BCC.  He is an adjunct lecturer in pharmacology, pain management, anesthesia and oral pathology and supervises the student hygienists in the clinic. Dr Holly is a long time member of the ADA, a Fellow of  the AAOMS and ACOMS. He is also a member of the NYSDA for over 30 years, the NYSSOMS, the Broome Co. Dental Society for 28 years as well as a variety of other professional organizations.

For many years  has  studied and practiced, on a daily basis, some form of Chinese martial art. He enjoys reading, classic rock, learning to garden and time with his wife and two children. When the children were growing up,  he coached in both youth soccer and baseball leagues and enjoyed many years of dance recitals and karate competitions. He has watched his family grow and mature. He is thankful for the privilege to practice and serve his patients and this community.
